Ralph Travis
Ralph Travis was inducted into the THPA Hall of Fame in 1991 at the State Singles Championship in Waco, TX.
Ralph moved to Texas from Kingsbury, Indiana in 1938 with a pair of Sears & Roebuck horseshoes and a 1 1/4 turn. During his first year in Texas, Ralph won the State Singles title.
* State Singles Champion: 1938, 1939, 1940
Back then, the State Championship tournament ran on an elimination format, rather than the current Round Robin style today. To capture his first title, Ralph had to play 13 consecutive 50-point games. He started at 9:00am, and did not finish until 5:30pm. He was quoted as saying "Texas was a big state, full of horseshoe pitching cowboys."
